Canadians in Support of Afghan Women

Three Canadians were honoured on January 12th with a monument erected in front of the Canadian Embassy in Kabul.

Shirley Case of Williams Lake, BC and Jacqueline Kirk of Outremont, PQ of the NGO, International Rescue Committee were gunned down in an ambush by Taliban on August 13, 2008, some 60 km to the south of Kabul City. Glyn Berry of Quebec was a Canadian diplomat and killed by a roadside bomb in Khandahar Province in January 2006.

The Minister of International Cooperation, Bev Oda unveiled the monument with their names and the words "The Best of Canadian Spirit" and commented, " When you sign up for humanitarian and development work, although you are not signing up for military mission, you are serving your country and the global community and because it is the right thing to do".
